About this book

The authority of the Pāñcarātra Āgama is affirmed by the celebrated statement of the Mokṣadharma Parva of the Śrī Mahābhārata:

"Pañcarātrasya kṛtsnasya vaktā Nārāyaṇaḥ svayam."
"Lord Nārāyaṇa Himself is the expounder of the entire Pāñcarātra."

This declaration dispels all doubts regarding the authenticity and scriptural authority of the Pāñcarātra tradition.

The Pāñcarātra is traditionally said to comprise 108 Saṁhitās. Of these, only a limited number have survived and are available today. Among the extant texts, the Vaihāyasī Saṁhitā, as taught by Garuḍa, occupies a position of great prominence and is regarded as one of the principal scriptures of the Pāñcarātra tradition.
