About this book

This volume covers the Jijñāsādhikaraṇa up to the conclusion of the celebrated verse “Nārāyaṇaṃ Nikhilapūrṇaguṇaikadeham.” It presents a comprehensive study with word-by-word meanings (Pratipadārtha) along with valuable insights drawn from traditional commentaries such as Sannyāyaratnāvalī, Nyāyacandrikā, Padārthasambandhadīpikā, Parimala, Rasarañjanī, Laghurasarañjanī, and other authoritative annotations.

Śrī Kambālūru Rāmacandra Tīrtha, renowned as one of the foremost exponents of the Śrī Maṭha tradition, authored several distinguished works, among which the Śrīmannyāyasudhā Ṭippaṇi occupies a prominent place. Remembering his immense contribution, Kuṇḍalagiri Ācārya, at the beginning of his own commentary on the Nyāyasudhā Ṭippaṇi, offers the following homage:

स्वादीमानं सुधाया यः सम्यग् ज्ञापितवान् भुवि ।
रामचन्द्रगुरुं नौमि विद्वन्मुकुटमण्डनम् ॥

"I bow to Guru Rāmacandra, the ornament of learned scholars, who revealed to the world the true sweetness of the Nyāyasudhā."

This verse signifies that one who aspires to truly relish and comprehend the profound teachings of the Nyāyasudhā must necessarily seek the guidance of Śrī Rāmacandra Tīrtha.

In this edition, Vidwan Dr. K. S. Krishnacharya has translated into Kannada numerous significant discussions found in the Kāśī Ṭippaṇi and other traditional annotations that are not explained elsewhere. Beyond translation, he has undertaken a critical and analytical study by incorporating insights from foundational grammatical and philosophical works such as the Patañjali Mahābhāṣya, Vākyapadīya, Prakriyā Kaumudī, and Kāśikāvṛtti.

The editor has also examined Pūrva Mīmāṃsā doctrines with the aid of authoritative texts including the Śābara Bhāṣya, Mīmāṃsānukramaṇikā, and Bhāṭṭa Saṅgraha, thereby presenting the translation in the light of the Mīmāṃsā tradition.

Furthermore, discussions from the Gautama Nyāya Sūtras, Vātsyāyana Bhāṣya, Muktāvalī, and Gadādhara Bhaṭṭa's Vyutpattivāda have been carefully studied and incorporated wherever relevant. The edition reproduces the complete texts of Vedic mantras, verses from the Bhāgavata Purāṇa, and other scriptural citations referenced in the traditional annotations, accompanied by contextual explanations.

To facilitate deeper understanding, the work provides word-by-word meanings (Pratipadārtha) for passages from both the Anuvyākhyāna and the Nyāyasudhā, followed by lucid explanations that bring out the essence and philosophical significance of each sentence. This makes the volume an invaluable resource for advanced students, scholars, and researchers of Dvaita Vedānta.
